Authorities in the U.S. state of New Jersey have reduced the round-trip transit fare to FIFA World Cup matches at MetLife Stadium from $150 to $105 following criticism from FIFA, local media reports said on Thursday.

The revised fare, however, remains significantly higher than the usual cost of less than $15 for the same route on a normal day and is still above FIFA’s $80 round-trip shuttle service to the 82,500-capacity stadium.

MetLife Stadium is scheduled to host eight matches during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, including the tournament final on July 19.

Last month, the Chief Executive Officer of NJ Transit, Kris Kolluri, defended the initial fare increase, citing heightened security requirements, increased passenger traffic, and the closure of public parking facilities around the stadium during the tournament.

Reuters reported that it had contacted NJ Transit for comment regarding the latest fare adjustment.

The Chief Operating Officer for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Heimo Schirgi, had earlier warned that the original $150 fare could have “a chilling effect” on supporters planning to attend the matches.

Meanwhile, Mikie Sherrill previously argued that FIFA should bear the transportation costs, stating that NJ Transit had been left with a $48 million bill to ensure the safety and movement of fans during the tournament.
