Nigeria has unveiled a 45-member contingent for the upcoming Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) Senior Athletics Championships scheduled to take place in Accra, Ghana, with top stars and rising athletes set to lead the country’s medal ambitions.

The Chairman, Media Committee, Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Maxwell Kumoye made this known in a statement issued on Thursday 7th May, 2026.
The statement said a balanced squad comprising 25 female and 20 male athletes for the continental competition were ready to move to Accra.
He said headlining the women’s team is world record holder in the 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan, who is expected to spearhead Nigeria’s challenge in the sprint hurdles alongside Adaobi Tabugbo and Janet Sunday.
Sprint sensation Favour Ashe leads the men’s team, while Africa’s leading shot put athlete Chukwuebuka Enekwechi is also expected to play a key role in Nigeria’s medal hunt.
In the women’s sprint events, Rosemary Chukwuma will compete in the 100m and 4x100m relay alongside teammates Miracle Ezechukwu, Maria Thompson Omokwe and Tejiri Ugoh. The squad also features experienced athletes such as Patience Okon George in the 400m, Ruth Usoro in the long jump, and Oyesade Olatoye in the hammer throw.
The men’s sprint lineup includes Enoch Adegoke, Usheoritse Itsekiri and Chidera Ezakor, while the 400m and relay events will feature athletes such as Samson Nathaniel, Emmanuel Ojeli and Chidi Okezie.
Nigeria will also compete across multiple fields and combined events, including long jump, javelin, discus, shot put and decathlon, with athletes like Romeo Bernard, Emmanuel Audu and Adams Samuel Kure among those listed.
According to the AFN, the championships will serve as an important platform for athletes to compete against Africa’s best as preparations continue for future international competitions, including the Commonwealth Games.
The federation noted that the selected athletes represent a mix of experienced campaigners and emerging talents expected to strengthen Nigeria’s standing in continental athletics.
