Nigeria’s Falconets will face Colombia on Sunday in the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland, with a place in the semi-finals at stake.
The fixture comes after Nigeria defeated England 3-0 in the Round of 16, while Colombia eliminated tournament hosts Poland 1-0 through a late own goal.
For Nigeria, the match presents an opportunity to reach the U-20 Women’s World Cup semi-finals for the first time since 2014, when the Falconets went on to finish runners-up. Colombia, meanwhile, are seeking their first semi-final appearance since 2010.
Falconets coach Moses Aduku has urged his players to put the England victory behind them and concentrate on Colombia, maintaining his approach of taking the knockout phase one match at a time.
Nigeria’s route to the quarter-finals has included a 2-0 defeat by Spain, a goalless draw with China and a 10-1 victory over New Caledonia before the Round-of-16 win over England.
Colombia have also demonstrated resilience in the knockout stage, overcoming hosts Poland despite being under pressure for significant periods of their last-16 encounter.
Sunday’s match will be the first meeting between Nigeria and Colombia at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, adding another dimension to the last-eight contest.
The winner will advance to the semi-finals on September 23 to face the winner of the quarter-final between defending champions North Korea and Canada.
