The Nigeria Forward Project has called on political stakeholders in Northern Nigeria to support President Bola Tinubu for a second term in the 2027 presidential election.
The group made the call at its formal unveiling in Abuja, where its leaders argued that Tinubu should be allowed to complete eight years in office before the presidency returns to the North.
Co-convener and Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, said the position was based on the group’s interpretation of Nigeria’s informal power-rotation arrangement between the North and South.
Waiya argued that Northern politicians should allow the current Southern presidency to run for two terms rather than seek a return of the presidency to the North in 2027.
The position is an argument advanced by Nigeria Forward and its leaders ahead of the election. Nigeria’s Constitution does not require the presidency to rotate between the North and South, and the outcome of the 2027 presidential contest will ultimately be determined through the electoral process.
Also speaking, Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology and co-convener Kingsley Udeh highlighted policies of the Tinubu administration which the group believes should be sustained.
Waiya also cited local government autonomy, increased resources available to subnational governments and moves towards state policing among issues the group considers important to governance.
Nigeria Forward described itself as a platform for national engagement and mobilisation, while its leaders used the Abuja event to publicly advocate Tinubu’s continuation in office beyond 2027.
The group’s position comes amid competing political alignments and arguments over the presidency ahead of the 2027 general election.
