The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) is scheduled to begin a two-day energy security and efficiency summit in Lagos today, Tuesday, to address rising electricity costs, unreliable power supply and other challenges affecting industrial productivity.

The summit, scheduled for November 3 and 4 at Legend Hotel Lagos Airport, Ikeja, will bring together manufacturers, policymakers, energy regulators, technology providers and financial institutions.

Organised through MAN’s subsidiary, Manufacturers Power Development Company Limited, in partnership with the German development agency GIZ and the Nigerian Energy Support Programme, the event has the theme, “Innovative Energy for Cost-Effective Smart Manufacturing with Structured Financing.”

MAN President, Dr Ifeanyi Okoye, said the initiative would focus on affordable electricity, energy-efficient technologies and financing arrangements to strengthen Nigeria’s manufacturing sector.

He identified high electricity tariffs, unstable grid supply, fluctuating fuel prices and dependence on expensive alternative power sources as major challenges confronting manufacturers.

According to Okoye, these difficulties increase production costs, discourage investment and weaken the competitiveness of Nigerian products in regional and international markets.

The association disclosed that manufacturers spent approximately ₦1.35 trillion on alternative power generation in 2025, compared with ₦1.11 trillion in 2024.

Okoye said addressing the challenges would require stronger energy infrastructure, diversified electricity sources and increased public-private investment.

The summit will examine opportunities in solar power, battery storage, captive gas-powered electricity and other technologies capable of reducing factories’ dependence on unreliable grid supply.

Participants will also discuss structured financing, climate finance, carbon credits and investment mechanisms to support industrial energy projects.

A major feature of the event will be the planned launch of MAN’s Industrial Energy Cost Reduction and Adoption Programme, designed to encourage manufacturers to adopt more efficient and affordable power solutions.

The programme will promote rooftop solar installations, battery energy storage and other alternatives suited to industrial operations.

MAN Director-General, Segun Ajayi-Kadir, has emphasised the importance of connecting manufacturers with energy solution providers and investors to accelerate the adoption of alternative power systems.

The summit is also expected to feature policy discussions, technical sessions, technology exhibitions and business matchmaking opportunities.

Organisers hope the engagements will produce practical partnerships capable of improving energy reliability and reducing production expenses.

However, the effectiveness of the proposed initiatives will depend on financing availability, implementation and measurable reductions in manufacturers’ operating costs.
