The United States suffered a dramatic 3-2 defeat to Turkey in their final Group-stage match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Thursday but still progressed to the Round of 32.

Turkey secured victory with a goal in the closing seconds of stoppage time after both sides had been level at 2-2 for much of the second half.

The Americans made a flying start, taking the lead just two minutes into the game through Auston Trusty.

Turkey, however, responded with two first-half goals to go into the break leading 2-1 against a U.S. side that fielded several reserve players, including goalkeeper Matt Turner.

Sebastian Berhalter restored parity for the United States in the 49th minute with a powerful strike, while Christian Pulisic made his return from a calf injury after missing the previous two matches.

Despite the late defeat, the result did not affect the United States’ qualification for the knockout stage. The Americans will now face a Round of 32 fixture in Santa Clara, California, on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, in other World Cup matches played on Thursday, RISMADARVOICE gathered that Ecuador recorded a surprise 2-1 victory over Germany, Ivory Coast defeated Curaçao 2-0, the Netherlands beat Tunisia 3-1 to finish top of their group, while Japan drew 1-1 with Sweden and Paraguay played out a goalless draw with Australia.
