The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced technical procedures aimed at restoring 21 previously suppressed state constituencies across four states, with Kogi State accounting for the highest number.

In an internal memo dated April 30, 2026, the Commission directed Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) in Kogi State, Delta State, Benue State, and Jigawa State to initiate stakeholder engagement and field operations in the affected constituencies.

The memo, signed by INEC Secretary Rose Oriaran-Anthony, outlined the distribution of the constituencies: 11 in Kogi, five in Benue, four in Delta, and one in Jigawa.

According to the Commission, the exercise will involve the collection of geographical and demographic data to support the production and validation of new constituency maps, alongside other technical documentation required for the restoration process.

INEC further instructed RECs to collaborate closely with traditional rulers, community leaders, security agencies, and other critical stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation. Field teams are expected to receive administrative, logistical, and security support, while state offices have been directed to nominate personnel to join a central technical team from the Commission’s headquarters.
