The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, on Saturday commissioned a 100-bed “Renewed Hope” Specialist Hospital in Zaria, Kaduna State, describing the project as a major step toward improving access to healthcare in the region.
The facility, located in Dumbin Rauga within Zaria Federal Constituency, was facilitated through the Sustainable Development Goals Office Nigeria and commissioned alongside Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani.

Speaking at the event, Abbas said the hospital was established in response to longstanding challenges faced by residents who often travel long distances to access quality medical care. He noted that the new facility would bring healthcare services closer to the people while reducing pressure on existing centres.
“This hospital will reduce referrals, ease congestion at other centres, and provide a stronger foundation for healthcare delivery,” the Speaker said, while calling for adequate staffing and proper maintenance of the facility.
He also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the SDGs Office for supporting the project, highlighting Zaria’s strategic importance as a hub serving Kaduna State and the wider North-West region.
In a political note, Abbas linked the project to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), describing it as tangible evidence of the administration’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.” He urged Nigerians to support the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“As we approach another electoral cycle, our choice should be guided by evidence, not promises,” he said. “Supporting the party is supporting continuity, stability, and the expansion of projects like this.”

The hospital has been handed over to the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH) for management.
