The Board of Seplat Energy Plc, alongside members of the company’s senior management team, on Monday, September 21, 2026, paid a courtesy visit to Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, at the Government House in Uyo.
The visit was primarily to introduce the company’s newly appointed Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Effiong Okon, to the governor following his assumption of office.
Speaking during the visit, the Board Chairman, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma, said the visit was necessary to formally present the new chief executive to the state government.
Udoma recalled that following Seplat Energy’s acquisition of the then ExxonMobil assets in 2024, he had visited the Government House to introduce the company’s then CEO, Roger Brown.
He said the departure of the former chief executive and the appointment of Okon made it appropriate for the company’s leadership to renew its engagement with the state government.
Udoma also thanked Governor Eno for the warm reception he had consistently received during his visits to Akwa Ibom State.
In his remarks, the new CEO, Engr. Effiong Okon, expressed delight at returning home to contribute to the development of the state and its people while leading the company.
Okon said Seplat Energy’s acquisition of the former ExxonMobil assets had significantly expanded the company’s portfolio, particularly through the addition of substantial offshore assets.
He expressed optimism that his tenure would deliver visible and positive impacts on the company, its host communities and Akwa Ibom State.
The CEO also appealed to Governor Eno and the people of the state for their support and cooperation to enable the company to achieve its operational and development milestones.
Responding, Governor Eno welcomed the Seplat Energy delegation to the Government House and congratulated Okon on his appointment.
The governor described Okon’s appointment as a significant development for the people of Akwa Ibom State and pledged the support of his administration and the state to him throughout his tenure.
Governor Eno emphasised the importance of peace to the state’s development, noting that his administration remained committed to maintaining a peaceful environment as a critical factor in attracting investments and promoting economic growth.
He urged Seplat Energy to build on the contributions of the former ExxonMobil management by strengthening its corporate social investment initiatives and doing more to improve the welfare and development of its host communities and the state.
The governor commended Seplat Energy for what he described as its sense of responsibility, concern and collaboration with the state government, and expressed optimism about continued engagement between the company and the state.
