The Labour Party governorship candidate in Akwa Ibom State, Akparawa Michael Bush, has unveiled an eight-point development agenda ahead of the 2027 general election, promising reforms in industrialisation, education, healthcare, infrastructure and public accountability.

Bush presented the proposals at a press conference held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre in Uyo on Thursday.

He said his administration, if elected, would prioritise economic diversification, employment creation, improved public services and greater transparency in the management of state resources.

The candidate questioned the financial management of successive administrations, particularly the government of Governor Umo Eno, alleging that substantial public revenues had not translated into sufficient improvements in residents’ living conditions.

He estimated that the current administration could have received nearly ₦4 trillion in public revenues and demanded greater disclosure of government expenditure.

Bush also questioned the cost and ownership arrangements of the ARISE Palm Resort, calling for detailed public information about the project.

Outlining his development programme, the Labour Party candidate identified access to government services, knowledge and skills development, wealth creation, technological advancement, industrialisation, business support and manpower development as major priorities.

He promised to revive dormant industries, support indigenous businesses and introduce vocational and digital skills into the education system.

Bush also proposed revitalising the state’s Science Park, expanding electricity generation through an Ibom Power Plant and improving access to potable water.

On governance, he pledged to strengthen local government autonomy, judicial independence and legislative oversight within the framework of existing laws.

He further promised transparent procurement procedures, competitive contract awards and public disclosure of project costs.

The candidate said his administration would prioritise workers’ welfare, timely salary payments, pensions, affordable housing, agricultural development and community security.

He also called for greater employment opportunities for Akwa Ibom residents in major state-linked projects, including Ibom Air and the proposed Ibaka Deep Seaport.

Bush pledged to complete the renovation of the State House of Assembly complex within his first 100 days in office.

He urged residents to examine candidates’ programmes and participate in the electoral process, while calling on journalists to hold political leaders accountable for their commitments.

The proposals remain campaign pledges, with implementation dependent on electoral outcomes, available funding and applicable legal requirements.
