Chelsea Football Club have relieved head coach Liam Rosenior of his duties just over three months into his reign, following a string of poor performances that left the team without a goal in five straight Premier League defeats.

In an official statement released on Wednesday, the club said the decision followed a sustained run of underwhelming performances, which they described as falling short of expectations.

Rosenior’s dismissal comes only 107 days after his appointment on a long-term deal intended to stabilise the squad following earlier managerial changes.

Chelsea expressed appreciation for Rosenior’s professionalism during his short stay, noting that he led the team through a challenging phase of the season while maintaining commitment and discipline within the squad. The club also confirmed that his departure does not affect their involvement in the ongoing FA Cup campaign or their pursuit of European qualification through the Premier League.

Despite early optimism surrounding his appointment, results deteriorated rapidly. Chelsea suffered five consecutive league defeats without scoring, with losses against Newcastle United, Everton, Manchester City, Manchester United, and Brighton proving decisive in the club’s decision-making process.

The team currently sits seventh in the Premier League table, trailing Champions League qualification places by seven points.

Taking charge on an interim basis is Calum McFarlane, who will oversee first-team duties for the remainder of the season. His first test will come in a high-profile FA Cup semi-final clash against Leeds United at Wembley Stadium.

Chelsea also indicated that a broader internal review will be conducted as the club prepares to appoint a long-term successor, emphasising the need for stability and clearer direction moving forward.
