The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has emphasised that advanced military training and technology-driven operations remain central to the effectiveness of the Nigerian Army in contemporary warfare.

Shaibu made this assertion on Thursday during the closing ceremony of the Combat Arms Training (CAT) Week 2026 held at the Jaji Military Cantonment in Kaduna State.

The week-long exercise brought together serving and retired senior military officers for strategic discussions, lectures, and field demonstrations aimed at strengthening the Army’s capacity in counterterrorism and counterinsurgency operations across the country.

Speaking at the event themed “Building Troops’ Resilience through Counter Terrorism Campaigns,” the COAS noted that modern security threats require continuous innovation, adaptability, and professional development among personnel.

He charged troops to remain disciplined, resilient, and combat-ready, stressing that operational success in today’s battlefield is determined not only by equipment but also by the quality and preparedness of soldiers.

Lieutenant General Shaibu further highlighted the increasing relevance of drone technology, combat aviation, and advanced training systems as key force multipliers in ongoing and future military operations. According to him, the Army is committed to integrating modern technologies to enhance efficiency and operational outcomes.

The Commander, Infantry Corps, Major General Godwin Mutkut, commended the Army Chief for what he described as visionary leadership, noting that his reforms have improved troop welfare and strengthened operational performance across formations.

The training programme featured live-fire demonstrations showcasing various categories of infantry weapons, armoured vehicles, and advanced combat platforms. It also included a combined infantry and armour manoeuvre exercise designed to simulate realistic combat scenarios.

A symbolic Pulling Out Ceremony was also held in honour of retired senior infantry officers who had distinguished themselves in service.

The Combat Arms Training Week 2026 reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to continuous capacity building, technological integration, and sustained efforts in the fight against terrorism and other security threats nationwide.
