The Uyo office of the Federal Character Commission (FCC) has expressed its readiness to deepen collaboration with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Uyo to enhance public awareness and implementation of the Federal Character Principle across the country.

The commitment was made during a familiarisation visit by the Akwa Ibom State FCC Director, Mr Chukwudi Christopher Chizea, who led a delegation of staff members to the General Manager of NTA Uyo, Mrs Alice Ugbe.
Chizea said the partnership aligns with the constitutional provisions of the Federal Character Principle as contained in Section 14 (3) and 14 (4) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which aim to ensure equitable representation of Nigeria’s ethnic, cultural, and religious groups in public service appointments and distribution of national resources.
He expressed appreciation to NTA Uyo for its consistent support and responsiveness to FCC activities, particularly during the recent reception of the Commission’s new Federal Commissioner, Hon. Eunice Thomas.
“I sincerely appreciate your prompt response and support. A phone call was all it took, and your team was present. We are grateful for your cooperation,” he said.
The FCC director reiterated the Commission’s commitment to fairness, inclusion, and national unity, stressing that every Nigerian must be given a sense of belonging regardless of origin.
He noted that effective public sensitisation remained critical to achieving the objectives of the Commission, adding that the media—particularly the NTA plays a key role in educating citizens on government policies.
Chizea further described NTA as a strategic partner in advancing national cohesion, stating that the FCC would continue to collaborate closely with the station in promoting awareness of federal character policies and programmes.
“The essence of this partnership is to ensure that our message reaches the grassroots. NTA remains a vital platform for public enlightenment, and we look forward to sustained collaboration,” he added.
In his remarks, an official of NTA Uyo, Mr John Nwafor, commended the FCC for the initiative, describing it as a step in the right direction for strengthening public communication of government policies.
He urged the Commission to intensify publicity for its programmes, noting that effective communication helps citizens better understand government policies and their benefits.
Also speaking, the General Manager of NTA Uyo, Mrs Alice Ugbe, welcomed the FCC delegation and described the visit as a positive step toward strengthening institutional synergy.
She noted that the Federal Character Commission plays a unifying role in Nigeria’s governance structure and assured NTA’s readiness to support its sensitisation efforts.
“When it is time for local government sensitisation and outreach programmes, NTA Uyo will be fully available to partner with you,” she said.
The visit featured interactive discussions, exchange of ideas, and commitments by both organisations to strengthen cooperation aimed at promoting equity, inclusiveness, and effective public enlightenment on federal character policies.
