The Nigerian Army is expanding its operational capacity with the establishment of additional divisions, formations and units to enhance its response to emerging security threats across the country.
Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, disclosed this on Friday at the graduation ceremony of Exercise RESTORE HOPE X, the Advanced Infantry Training Programme, held at the Nigerian Army Training Centre, Kachia, Kaduna State.
Shaibu said the graduating soldiers would form part of the nucleus of the newly established formations approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as part of ongoing efforts to restructure and strengthen the Army.
The Army Chief charged the soldiers to justify the investment in their training by demonstrating discipline, sound judgment and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
He urged them to remain physically and mentally fit, technologically proficient and adaptable to emerging security threats, while respecting human rights, the rule of law and established rules of engagement.
Shaibu described Exercise RESTORE HOPE X as a critical component of the Army’s post-basic infantry training framework, designed to strengthen combat proficiency and prepare personnel for contemporary military operations.
He also expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for his continued support for the Army’s operational, training and administrative requirements.
Earlier, the Chief of Training, Army, Major General Valentine Okoro, said the training exposed participants to tactical operations, marksmanship, field craft, combat endurance, leadership and counter-insurgency operations.
He said the programme had enhanced the confidence, decision-making ability and battlefield competence of the graduating soldiers.
