The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, says the Nigerian Army has commissioned more than 250 projects across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones as part of its civil-military cooperation initiative aimed at promoting community development and strengthening public support.

Shaibu made this known during the commissioning of the renovated Community Primary and Secondary School, Rumuomasi, in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

He said the initiative provides the Nigerian Army with an opportunity to foster stronger relationships with host communities, enhance cooperation and contribute meaningfully to grassroots development.

According to the Army Chief, the military recognises the indispensable role citizens play in supporting its operations and achieving national security objectives within the country’s complex and evolving security environment.

He also acknowledged the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that the Army would not have been able to effectively discharge its constitutional responsibilities without the President’s backing.

Earlier, the Chief of Civil-Military Affairs, Major General Musa Etusa-Ndagi, said the commissioning of the school formed part of activities lined up to commemorate the 2026 Nigerian Army Day Celebration.

He noted that similar projects have been executed across the country as part of the Army’s commitment to improving the welfare of communities while deepening civil-military relations.

As part of the outreach, the Nigerian Army also distributed free educational materials, including textbooks, exercise books, writing materials and school bags to pupils and students of the renovated schools.
