United States Congressman Riley Moore has welcomed the reported arrest of Mahmoud Adam, a prominent Fulani community leader in Plateau State who has been accused of links to violent attacks in Nigeria.

Moore, a Republican member of the US House of Representatives, described the development as positive for Christian communities and credited security cooperation between Nigeria and the United States.

“This is great news for Christians in Nigeria!” Moore wrote in a social media post.

He described Adam as a terrorist leader allegedly responsible for attacks on Christians and argued that the reported arrest showed progress in security cooperation between the two countries.

Moore also commended the Nigerian government for the reported operation and said efforts by the US Congress and President Donald Trump’s administration to draw attention to attacks on Christian communities were producing results.

“The Nigerian government deserves credit for making this arrest,” Moore said, while calling for continued efforts to protect vulnerable communities.

Adam was reportedly arrested in the early hours of September 12 at his compound in Plateau State, where he is known as a Fulani community leader. Reports of his detention subsequently emerged alongside allegations linking him to violent groups operating in the state.

However, the allegations against Adam have not been established by a court, and publicly available reporting has not provided a detailed account from Nigerian security authorities setting out formal charges against him.

Some reports have described him as a high-value suspect and alleged that information obtained during security investigations connected him to attacks in Plateau State. Those claims remain allegations pending further investigation and any judicial proceedings.

The development comes amid continuing security concerns in Plateau State, where communities have experienced repeated attacks, killings and kidnappings.

Moore’s comments also reflect continuing attention in Washington to insecurity affecting Christian communities in Nigeria and broader counterterrorism cooperation between the two countries.

Further information from Nigerian authorities will be required to establish the precise circumstances of Adam’s detention, the evidence against him and whether formal criminal charges will be filed.
