Troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, under the 2 Division, have foiled an attempted abduction of pupils at Iluke Community in Kabba Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The operation, carried out on June 10, 2026, followed credible intelligence from members of the community who reported suspicious movement of armed men in the area. Acting on the information, troops on patrol were swiftly deployed to intercept the suspects.

According to a statement by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, the troops arrived at Iluke Primary School where the armed men had already gathered pupils with the intent of abducting them.

The soldiers engaged the assailants, forcing them to abandon the attempt and flee. One suspect was killed during the encounter, while others escaped with gunshot injuries.

The Army also confirmed that before the arrival of troops, the attackers had killed a teacher and another resident of the community.

Following the incident, troops have continued pursuit operations, while neighbouring security formations in Kogi, Kwara and Niger States have been alerted to block possible escape routes.

The Nigerian Army said the swift intervention prevented what could have been a mass abduction and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting civilians, particularly in vulnerable communities.

Residents have been urged to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to aid ongoing counter-insurgency and anti-banditry operations in the region.
