A Russian drone has struck a train near Ukraine’s border with Poland, shortly after former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and other diplomats departed from the station, Ukrainian authorities have said.
The incident occurred amid heightened security concerns in western Ukraine, an area that has generally remained less exposed to direct attacks than the country’s major eastern and southern regions.
According to Ukrainian officials, passengers travelling on the affected train were ordered to evacuate approximately 15 minutes before the drone strike.

The evacuation order reportedly enabled passengers to leave the train before the attack, although details of casualties and the extent of damage were not immediately provided in the information available.
Johnson and other diplomats had reportedly left the station shortly before the drone struck, raising concerns over the timing of the attack and the potential risks faced by foreign officials and civilians using transport infrastructure in the area.
The reported strike comes as Russia continues its campaign of missile and drone attacks against Ukrainian infrastructure, including transport facilities, energy installations and residential areas.
Ukraine has repeatedly accused Russia of deliberately targeting civilian and critical infrastructure, while Moscow has maintained that its strikes are directed at military-related targets.
The location of the incident near the Polish border is particularly significant because western Ukraine serves as a major transit corridor for humanitarian assistance, military equipment and international personnel entering or leaving the country.

Poland, a NATO member, shares a long border with Ukraine and has played a central role in supporting Kyiv since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022.
The reported attack is expected to prompt renewed concerns over the security of railway routes and other infrastructure in western Ukraine, particularly as diplomatic and humanitarian movements continue through the region.
Ukrainian authorities are expected to provide further details on the damage, casualties and circumstances surrounding the drone strike as investigations continue.
