At least eight people have been killed and 22 others injured following a new wave of Russian drone, missile and artillery attacks across several regions of Ukraine, according to Ukrainian regional authorities.
The combined injury figure comprises 15 people reported injured in Kharkiv, five in Kherson and two in Dnipropetrovsk.
Ukraine’s Air Force said Russia launched 174 drones and two Zircon anti-ship missiles overnight, targeting multiple parts of the country.
The Air Force said Ukrainian defences intercepted or electronically disrupted 141 incoming targets, while impacts were recorded at 15 locations and debris fell in nine others.
It added that the two Zircon missiles did not reach their intended targets.
KHARKIV, KHERSON ACCOUNT FOR EIGHT DEATHS
In the northeastern Kharkiv region, Governor Oleh Syniehubov said attacks across 14 settlements killed five people and injured 15 others.
In the southern Kherson region, Governor Oleksandr Prokudin reported three deaths and five injuries following strikes across 25 communities.
Together, the two regions accounted for the eight reported fatalities and 20 of the 22 injuries.
Residential buildings and civilian infrastructure, including a telecommunications facility and gas pipeline, were also damaged, according to regional authorities.
The Dnipropetrovsk region was also targeted in more than 10 separate attacks involving drones, artillery and aerial bombs.
Regional administration head Oleksandr Ganzha said two people were injured, bringing the reported injury total across the three regions to 22. Warehouses, an outpatient clinic, a shopping centre and residential properties were also damaged.
RUSSIA SAYS TWO VESSELS HIT IN BLACK SEA
Russia’s Defence Ministry separately said its forces struck two commercial vessels in the Black Sea, including a Ukrainian dry cargo ship travelling towards Odesa and a tanker docked at the port.
Moscow alleged that both vessels were transporting military supplies. The claim was made by the Russian Defence Ministry and was not independently confirmed in the information immediately available.
POLAND SCRAMBLES FIGHTER JETS
The scale of the Russian aerial operation also prompted neighbouring Poland to scramble military aircraft and place ground-based air defence and radar systems on heightened readiness.
Poland’s Operational Command said the precautionary measures were introduced because of heavy Russian drone activity during strikes on neighbouring Ukrainian territory.
The operation was subsequently ended, and air defence units returned to normal readiness after Polish authorities reported no violation of the country’s airspace.
Meanwhile, Russia’s Defence Ministry claimed its forces were continuing offensive operations along several sections of the front, including towards Zaporizhzhia and around the Kramatorsk-Slovyansk area.
Moscow also claimed its forces had taken more than 5,300 square kilometres of territory since the beginning of the year, including about 670 square kilometres in September. Those battlefield figures represent Russia’s account and have not been independently verified.
