Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to peaceful, free and fair elections, warning political parties and their supporters against violence, intimidation and violations of electoral laws.
The governor gave the assurance on Wednesday during a stakeholders’ meeting on electoral security organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Asaba, the state capital.
Represented by his Senior Political Adviser, Senator Emmanuel Aguariavwodo, Oborevwori said his administration would continue to support an environment where political parties could conduct their activities without harassment or intimidation.
He urged political actors to focus on presenting their policies and programmes to voters through peaceful campaigns and lawful political engagement.
The governor warned that individuals found violating electoral laws would face appropriate sanctions, regardless of their political affiliations.
He also pledged continued support for INEC and other institutions responsible for conducting and securing elections.
According to Oborevwori, credible elections require cooperation among electoral officials, security agencies, political parties, civil society organisations and voters.
He maintained that no single institution could guarantee a peaceful electoral process without the collective commitment of other stakeholders.

Also speaking, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, Samuel Etaifo Erale, warned political parties and supporters against actions capable of disrupting public peace.
Erale assured participants that the police would monitor political activities and work with other security agencies to maintain law and order before, during and after elections.
He emphasised that security personnel would seek to provide a level playing field for all political parties, allowing candidates and supporters to exercise their democratic rights within the law.
The commissioner warned that individuals involved in electoral violence or other unlawful activities would face enforcement action, irrespective of their political connections.
He identified the prevention of violence, protection of electoral activities and impartial enforcement of the law as priorities for security agencies.

Erale also urged political parties, candidates and their supporters to cooperate with law enforcement personnel and avoid conduct that could threaten public safety.
The meeting underscored the importance of collaboration between INEC, government institutions and security agencies as preparations continue for the 2027 general elections.
Stakeholders were encouraged to prioritise peaceful political participation, respect electoral regulations and support measures aimed at protecting voters and maintaining public confidence in the electoral process.
