The Rivers State Police Command has announced plans to commence a statewide enforcement operation targeting vehicles with covered, obscured, defaced, unauthorised, or missing registration number plates as part of efforts to enhance security and public safety.
According to the Command, the exercise is in line with a directive issued by the Inspector-General of Police to prevent criminal elements from concealing their identities and using unregistered vehicles to facilitate unlawful activities.
The enforcement campaign is scheduled to begin on June 15, 2026, across all parts of the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, has directed Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to ensure strict implementation of the directive within their respective jurisdictions.
Under the operation, any vehicle found in violation of the regulations will be impounded, while the owners or operators may face prosecution in accordance with existing laws.
The Command urged motorists and vehicle owners to ensure that their registration plates are properly installed, clearly visible, and free of any obstruction, alteration, or concealment to avoid sanctions.
Police authorities also emphasised that officers assigned to the exercise must conduct themselves professionally and within the confines of the law. The Command warned that the operation must not be used as a tool for harassment, intimidation, or extortion of members of the public.
It further stated that any officer found engaging in misconduct or exploiting the exercise for personal gain would face disciplinary measures.
The Rivers State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order, safeguarding lives and property, and implementing proactive security measures aimed at improving public safety across the state.
Residents were encouraged to report complaints or emergencies through the Command’s designated communication channels as the enforcement exercise gets underway.
