The Rivers State Government has announced immediate measures to ensure that Amos Joy, a fire burn victim from Bille Community, receives comprehensive medical care.
The Deputy Governor, Prof. Ngozi Odu, disclosed this during a visit to Joy, who is currently receiving treatment at the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH), Port Harcourt.
Odu said she was informed about the victim’s condition shortly before the visit and commended the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr Vincent Nwachukwu; the Chief Medical Director of RSUTH, Prof Chizindu Alikor; cardiologists, nurses and other members of the medical team for their prompt response and efforts to bring the victim to the teaching hospital.
The Deputy Governor assured that the state government would cover the cost of Joy’s treatment for as long as she remains at the hospital. She also provided financial assistance to support her immediate needs.
In his remarks, the Chief Medical Director of RSUTH, Prof Chizindu Alikor, said Joy was receiving quality medical attention free of charge and was responding positively to treatment.
The Permanent Secretary of the Rivers State Ministry of Health, Dr Vincent Nwachukwu, said the ministry intervened after receiving information about the incident online.
According to him, officials immediately swung into action and arranged for the victim to be evacuated from the facility where she was initially receiving treatment to RSUTH for further medical care.
