The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Rivers State has appointed Commandant Reuben Lessor Dennis as its new state commandant following the retirement of Commandant Joachin Okafor.

The handover ceremony took place on Tuesday at the command headquarters on Olu Obasanjo Road in Port Harcourt, where Okafor formally transferred authority to Dennis, who previously served as the command’s second-in-command and Head of Operations for Zone 9.

In his farewell remarks, Okafor expressed appreciation to the Commandant-General of the NSCDC, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, for the opportunity to serve. He also thanked Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara for supporting the command, particularly through the donation of 10 Hilux patrol vehicles that enhanced its operations.

The outgoing commandant highlighted some of his achievements and urged his successor to prioritise securing a permanent site for the Rivers State Command.

Speaking after assuming office, Dennis pledged to sustain the achievements of his predecessor and strengthen collaboration with other security agencies operating in the state.

He also vowed to intensify the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure, warning criminals involved in vandalism, oil theft and economic sabotage to stay away from the state.

The new commandant promised to focus on personnel training, intelligence gathering and improved welfare for officers and men of the command.

Dennis further warned that indiscipline and misconduct among personnel would not be tolerated, stressing that officers found wanting would face disciplinary action.

He called on residents to support security agencies, noting that maintaining security is a collective responsibility.

The event featured the signing of handover documents, a symbolic transfer of authority through the NSCDC flag and a photo session with officers and guests.
