United States President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump have cast their ballots early in Florida ahead of the November 3 midterm elections, as Republicans and Democrats intensify efforts to secure control of Congress.

The couple voted on Saturday at a polling centre in West Palm Beach, where Trump is registered to vote, before the president travelled to Georgia for a Republican campaign rally.

Speaking to journalists after casting his ballot, Trump confirmed that he voted exclusively for Republican candidates.

Wearing an “I Voted” sticker, the president was asked whether he had voted along party lines and responded in the affirmative.

Trump also addressed questions about corruption, accusing Democratic-controlled cities and districts of being responsible for what he described as widespread political misconduct.

He repeated his disputed claim that he won the 2020 presidential election, despite the certified results confirming Democrat Joe Biden as the winner.

Trump’s allegations of widespread electoral fraud in that election have not been substantiated by evidence sufficient to overturn the outcome.

The president’s early voting appearance came as both major parties intensified campaign activities ahead of elections that will determine control of the House of Representatives and the Senate.

In Florida, Trump has endorsed Republican Congressman Byron Donalds in the governorship contest against Democrat David Jolly.

He has also campaigned for Republican Senator Ashley Moody, who is seeking to retain the Senate seat previously held by Marco Rubio.

Moody faces Democratic state lawmaker Angie Nixon in the special election.

During his interaction with reporters, Trump also defended Republican gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy over a controversial campaign advertisement targeting his Democratic opponent in Ohio, Amy Acton.

The president further addressed his administration’s legal challenge concerning the Alaska Senate election, where two candidates with similar names appear on the ballot.

The November elections represent a significant political test for the Trump administration as voters assess its record on the economy, immigration, healthcare and foreign policy.

Republicans are seeking to retain their congressional majorities, while Democrats are campaigning to gain additional seats and increase their influence over federal legislation and oversight.

A change in control of either chamber would alter the balance of power in Washington during the remaining two years of Trump’s presidency.

Early voting is already underway in several states, with political parties encouraging supporters to cast their ballots before Election Day.
