The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rivers State, has dismissed reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) did not upload the name of its Deputy Governorship Candidate, Dr Mike Barieenee Nwielaghi, on its portal.
The party’s media directorate, in a statement issued Thursday in Port Harcourt, described the report as “false and misleading,” insisting that Nwielaghi’s name was successfully uploaded by INEC.
Dr Mike Nwielaghi remains the duly presented and recognised Deputy Governorship Candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress in Rivers State, and his details have been duly submitted through the appropriate electoral process,” the statement said.
The party urged members of the public, its supporters and the media to disregard reports suggesting otherwise and verify electoral information through official sources before publishing or sharing such claims.
It said political discourse should be based on facts rather than speculation and misinformation capable of creating confusion among voters.
The NDC media directorate also reaffirmed the party’s commitment to transparency, due process and issue-based political engagement as the electoral process progresses.
Confirming the development, Nwielaghi said the NDC was prepared to win the forthcoming governorship election and provide Rivers people with what he described as the democracy they deserved.
He also expressed confidence in the party’s governorship candidate, Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs, describing him as a politician widely loved by the people of the state.
