Portuguese football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is closing in on one of the most remarkable milestones in modern football history, having taken his career tally to 981 official senior goals, leaving him just 19 away from the historic 1,000-goal mark.
The 41-year-old Al-Nassr forward reached his latest milestone on October 12, scoring during his club’s 3-1 victory over Uzbekistan’s Neftchi Fergana in the AFC Champions League Elite.
Ronaldo found the net in the 42nd minute to double Al-Nassr’s advantage, continuing a remarkable goalscoring career spanning more than two decades.
His pursuit of 1,000 goals has attracted growing attention among football supporters, with the Portuguese international maintaining his scoring ability well beyond the age at which many professional footballers retire.
TWO DECADES OF GOALSCORING EXCELLENCE
Ronaldo began his senior career with Sporting CP before moving to Manchester United in 2003, where he developed into one of the world’s most influential attacking players.
During his first spell at Old Trafford, he helped United secure major domestic and European honours, including three Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League.

His transfer to Real Madrid in 2009 marked the beginning of the most prolific chapter of his career.
At the Spanish club, Ronaldo scored 450 goals in 438 league appearances, establishing himself as Real Madrid’s all-time leading goalscorer.
He also won four Champions League titles with Madrid, adding to the European trophy he had previously secured with Manchester United.
Following his departure from Spain in 2018, Ronaldo continued his goalscoring success with Juventus before returning to Manchester United in 2021.
He subsequently joined Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr, where he has remained a prominent attacking figure and continued adding to his career tally.
PORTUGAL RECORD ADDS TO HISTORIC LEGACY
Ronaldo’s achievements extend beyond club football.
As Portugal’s record international goalscorer, he has scored 146 goals for his country, according to career statistics published in October 2026.
His international career includes Portugal’s victory at the 2016 European Championship and the 2019 UEFA Nations League.
Ronaldo has also won five Ballon d’Or awards, recognising his sustained individual excellence across different leagues and competitions.
His consistency, physical conditioning and ability to adapt his playing style have contributed to his longevity at the highest level.
FINAL COUNTDOWN TO 1,000 GOALS
With 981 official senior goals recorded as of October 12, Ronaldo’s pursuit of the four-figure milestone has entered a decisive stage.
His latest goal against Neftchi Fergana followed another scoring appearance in Al-Nassr’s Saudi Pro League victory over Diriyah Club on October 9.

The two performances demonstrated his continued ability to deliver goals in domestic and continental competitions.
However, reaching 1,000 goals will depend on his fitness, playing opportunities and goalscoring form over the coming months.
Although football legends such as Pelé and Romário have historically been associated with claims of 1,000 or more goals, those figures include disputed records and unofficial matches, making comparisons dependent on the counting method used.
Ronaldo’s current pursuit focuses on goals scored in recognised senior competitive matches for club and country.
Should he reach the landmark, it would represent another extraordinary achievement in a career already distinguished by major trophies, individual honours and numerous scoring records.
For now, the Portuguese superstar remains 19 goals away from the milestone, with football supporters closely following every appearance as his historic pursuit continues.
