The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a swipe at the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, describing his recent remarks against party leaders as “political rascality” and urging Nigerians to disregard them.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary of the Interim National Working Committee, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the PDP condemned what it called Wike’s “reckless” comments made during a media engagement.

The party accused the former Rivers State governor of maligning prominent Nigerians and exhibiting conduct unbecoming of a public office holder.

“The session was full of sound and fury, signifying nothing,” the statement said, adding that Wike’s actions reflected “moral emptiness and crass opportunism.”

While distancing itself from the minister’s remarks, the PDP said it regretted providing him a platform in the past to occupy key political offices, including governor and minister.

The party also advised individuals allegedly defamed by Wike to seek legal redress, stressing that no one should be above the law.

Reacting to internal party matters, the PDP dismissed claims attributed to the minister regarding control of party structures and finances, insisting that processes for its forthcoming primaries and national convention were already underway.

“The sale of forms is ongoing, and there is nothing Wike can do about it,” the statement noted.

It further rejected what it described as threats by Wike to frustrate party operations, including alleged claims about influencing banking institutions, maintaining that the party continues to operate its accounts without hindrance.

On ongoing legal disputes, the PDP said it was awaiting the Certified True Copies of court rulings and challenged the minister to publicly clarify issues surrounding appeals linked to his allies.

The statement also dismissed any suggestion of Wike positioning himself as a “national leader” within the party, noting that no such position exists in its constitution.
