Former Bayelsa State Governor and National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Seriake Dickson, is set to inaugurate the party’s 21-member Selection Committee in Abuja on Monday as part of preparations for the forthcoming general elections.
The committee inauguration follows the completion of screening exercises for governorship, National Assembly and State Houses of Assembly aspirants seeking to contest on the platform of the party.

In a statement issued by the NDC National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the party said the committee was established to strengthen internal democracy and ensure a transparent candidate selection process.
According to the statement, the panel will review reports and recommendations submitted by the National Screening Committee and State Houses of Assembly Screening Committees across the country.
“The Committee is mandated to review, scrutinise and consider the reports and recommendations of the National Screening Committee and the State Houses of Assembly Screening Committees,” the statement said.
It added that the committee would make decisions on the screening outcomes of aspirants as part of efforts to ensure credible representation in the elections.
The 21-member committee will be chaired by the party’s National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas Zuwoghe, and is said to be operating in line with directives from the party leadership led by Dickson.
“The Selection Committee is a brainchild of the NDC National Leader, working in concert with the recommendations of the National Working Committee, as part of ongoing preparations for the upcoming general elections,” the statement added.
The party said the initiative forms part of broader reforms aimed at positioning the NDC to field “the most formidable candidates” for all elective positions.

Meanwhile, Dickson is also expected to host an Aspirants Dinner in Abuja later on Monday to engage screened aspirants and key party stakeholders.
In a separate statement, the NDC National Secretary, Barrister Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, said the gathering would promote unity, inclusiveness and stronger engagement within the party.
“It is part of our vision of making the NDC one true united and closely knit family, where everyone is important,” Enekweizu stated.
