A new report by the Observatory for Religious Freedom in Africa says 79,323 people were killed and 34,773 civilians abducted in terrorism-related violence across Nigeria between 2020 and 2025.

The report, unveiled in Jos, says the violence averaged seven attacks and 36 deaths daily, with more than 42,000 of those killed being civilians.

According to the organisation, armed groups it describes as Fulani Terror Groups accounted for 44 per cent of civilian deaths, while Boko Haram and ISWAP were responsible for 12 per cent. ORFA stressed that it distinguishes armed groups from the wider Fulani ethnic population.

The report also says Christians were killed at a higher rate than Muslims in affected states and called for greater recognition of the religious dimensions of Nigeria’s insecurity to achieve lasting solutions.
