Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has called for stronger collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) to enhance community policing, professional training and emergency response across the country.

The call came when the President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Engr. Ali Alimasuya Rabiu, led members of the Society’s leadership on a courtesy visit to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

During the meeting, both organisations explored areas of partnership aimed at strengthening public safety, capacity building and disaster management.

Speaking during the visit, Engr. Rabiu congratulated the Inspector-General on the progress recorded by the Nigeria Police Force under his leadership and commended the longstanding relationship between the Force and the engineering body.

He also informed the IGP of the Society’s 2026 International Engineering Conference and Annual General Meeting scheduled to hold in Maiduguri, Borno State, and requested police support to ensure adequate security and successful participation.

Responding, IGP Disu described engineers as critical partners in national development and praised their professionalism and contributions to infrastructure and public service.

The police chief assured the Society of adequate security for the Maiduguri conference, while paying tribute to police personnel serving in the North-East for their dedication and sacrifices.

He further urged the NSE to support the Force’s community policing initiatives through public enlightenment campaigns and encouraged closer collaboration in planning training programmes that would enhance the capacity of police personnel.

The Inspector-General also identified emergency response and disaster management as key areas requiring sustained cooperation between the Nigeria Police Force and the engineering profession.

He reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with professional organisations as part of efforts to improve policing and enhance the protection of lives and property nationwide.
