The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned Nigerians against a purported list of governorship candidates for the 2027 general elections circulating on social media, describing the publication as fraudulent.
The commission identified Zamfara, Gombe, Delta, Plateau, Yobe and Kano as the six states mentioned in the disputed publication.
In a public notice issued on Monday, October 12, INEC said the document, presented as a special announcement from the electoral body, was not issued or authorised by the commission.

INEC urged political parties, candidates, voters and members of the public to disregard the publication and refrain from circulating it.
The commission stressed the importance of verifying election-related information through its official website, verified social media accounts and other authorised communication channels.
It warned that the circulation of unauthorised electoral documents could mislead voters and create confusion over the status of candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.
The commission also encouraged Nigerians to report suspicious electoral information and seek clarification through its official public enquiry channels.

The warning comes amid public discussions surrounding candidate nominations and the electoral preparations for the forthcoming general elections.
Although reports have emerged of disagreements over candidate lists in some states, INEC did not establish any connection between those disputes and the fraudulent publication.
The commission maintained that only information released through its recognised channels should be treated as an official electoral announcement.
