The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) vice-presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has expressed support for the Catholic Bishops following their recent meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja, praising them for speaking out on Nigeria’s current challenges.
In a statement posted on his verified X account, Kwankwaso commended the Bishops for what he described as their courage and patriotism in highlighting the country’s economic and security concerns.
He rejected suggestions that the Bishops’ remarks on the rising cost of living, worsening insecurity, declining public confidence and the hardship facing millions of Nigerians were politically motivated, insisting that their observations reflected the daily realities experienced by citizens across the country.
Kwankwaso lamented that many Nigerians continue to grapple with economic hardship, unemployment, insecurity, inadequate access to quality education and healthcare, as well as shrinking opportunities despite the nation’s abundant human and natural resources.
He said the country’s challenges require urgent, sincere and people-centred responses from those in leadership.
The former Kano State governor also urged Nigerians to continue engaging governments at all levels constructively, while advocating for good governance, accountability and policies that prioritise the security, welfare and prosperity of the people.
“I commend the Catholic Bishops for their courage and patriotism. It is through such collective commitment and responsible leadership that we can build a more peaceful, united and prosperous Nigeria,” Kwankwaso stated.
The comments come amid growing national debate over the concerns raised by the Catholic Bishops during their engagement with President Tinubu on the state of the nation.
