Manchester City recorded a convincing 4-1 victory over Crystal Palace on Friday night to begin their second Premier League match of the season on a winning note.
The encounter, played at Selhurst Park in London, saw Erling Haaland and Rayan Cherki score twice each as Manchester City secured all three points.
Cherki was instrumental in City’s attacking performance, scoring two goals and later earning the Player of the Match award for his contribution.
Haaland also found the net twice, including City’s fourth goal in the 85th minute after receiving a pass from Phil Foden before producing a left-footed finish that left Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson with no chance.
Foden provided two assists during the encounter, linking effectively with Haaland as City maintained their control of the match.
Crystal Palace managed to score once but could not prevent Manchester City from securing a comfortable victory.
The result means Palace have now suffered consecutive defeats at the beginning of the campaign, while City strengthened their position after the second round of Premier League fixtures.
Speaking after the match, Cherki admitted that City struggled to create enough space during the first half but said the team improved as the game progressed.
Haaland, meanwhile, said the team was adjusting to a new manager and emphasised the need for the players to trust the new system.
The Norwegian striker also praised the quality within the Manchester City squad, saying the players would need to work hard as they adapt to the manager’s demands.
Manchester City will now look to build on the result in their next Premier League fixture, while Crystal Palace will seek to recover from their difficult start to the campaign.
