Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has commended the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, for what he described as his professionalism, dedication and responsible handling of security matters during the political crisis in the state.

Fubara made the remarks when Disu, accompanied by senior officers and commanders of other security agencies, paid him a courtesy visit at Government House, Port Harcourt.

The governor recalled Disu’s tenure as Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, saying his approach to policing during a politically sensitive period demonstrated commitment to duty and respect for professional standards.

According to Fubara, Disu’s conduct and leadership qualities were among the attributes that distinguished him for higher responsibilities within the Nigeria Police Force.

He noted that the police chief had assumed national responsibilities at a time when effective security coordination remained important, particularly as preparations continued ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Fubara expressed confidence in Disu’s ability to discharge his responsibilities and prayed for wisdom, strength and divine guidance as he addressed the security challenges confronting the country.

The governor also acknowledged Disu’s participation in a book presentation organised in honour of Dame Stella Okuyiga, a retired senior police officer recognised for her contributions to the Nigeria Police Force.

Earlier, Disu explained that his visit to Rivers State was principally connected to the book presentation celebrating Okuyiga, whom he described as a 94-year-old retired police officer.

The Inspector-General used the opportunity to express appreciation to the government and people of Rivers State for the cooperation he received while serving as Commissioner of Police.

He particularly thanked Governor Fubara for the support extended to him during his assignment, saying the working relationship helped him carry out his responsibilities.

Disu also acknowledged the goodwill and prayers of residents, describing his previous service in Rivers State as an important period in his policing career.

The visit provided an opportunity for both officials to reflect on their previous working relationship and the importance of cooperation between state governments and security agencies in maintaining public safety.
