The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced a significant road safety achievement, recording zero traffic crashes involving articulated vehicles along the Kugbo outbound corridor since the launch of its enforcement drive, Operation Safe Kugbo, on March 18, 2026.

This was contained in a statement signed by Osondu Ohaeri, Deputy Corps Commander and Corps Public Education Officer at the FRSC Headquarters in Abuja.

The milestone comes amid a sustained crackdown on heavy-duty vehicle movements during peak traffic periods.

According to the Corps, no fewer than 858 articulated vehicles and trucks have been restricted from operating along the corridor as part of the ongoing initiative.

The operation, introduced under the leadership of the Corps Marshal, is anchored on the provisions of the National Road Traffic Regulations, particularly Section 223, alongside the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) traffic laws. It also aligns with the FRSC’s 2026 Corporate Strategic Goal 1, which prioritizes a substantial reduction in road traffic crashes nationwide.

At the operational level, the Unit Commander of RS7.13 Nyanya, CRC WF Luka, has been leading enforcement efforts with a team of officers deployed across critical points. Their strategy combines targeted patrols, real-time traffic monitoring, and strategic positioning to ensure compliance during high-traffic periods.

FRSC officials say the zero-crash record along the busy corridor underscores the effectiveness of restricting articulated vehicles during peak hours an approach increasingly seen as critical to improving urban road safety.

“The success recorded so far validates the operational strategy and reinforces the need for strict adherence to traffic regulations,” the Corps stated.

The agency added that enforcement under Operation Safe Kugbo will continue with intensified monitoring to consolidate gains already made.

Motorists, fleet operators, and truck drivers have been urged to comply fully with the restriction order, as the Corps reiterates its commitment to safeguarding lives, enhancing road safety across the FCT and beyond.
