President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has welcomed the latest Gross Domestic Product, GDP, growth figures released by the National Bureau of Statistics, saying his administration will work to translate improved macroeconomic performance into better living conditions for Nigerians.
The National Bureau of Statistics reported on Monday that Nigeria’s economy grew by 4.43 per cent in the second quarter of 2026, compared with 4.23 per cent recorded during the corresponding period in 2025.
The report also showed growth in agriculture, manufacturing, oil and gas, as well as the services sector, which remains the largest contributor to the country’s aggregate GDP.
In nominal terms, Nigeria’s aggregate GDP stood at ₦119.27 trillion in the second quarter of 2026, representing an increase of 18.43 per cent from ₦100.7 trillion recorded in the same period last year.
Reacting to the figures, President Tinubu said the economic reforms introduced by his administration since assuming office in May 2023 were beginning to yield positive results.

The President said the reforms were aimed at stabilising the economy and laying a sustainable foundation for national prosperity.
According to him, Nigeria has recorded trade surpluses, while the country’s foreign reserves have reached their highest level in 17 years.
He also pointed to improvements in Nigeria’s credit rating, increased oil and gas production, returning investor confidence and ongoing investments in roads, railways and other critical infrastructure.
President Tinubu further noted that universities across the country had experienced relative stability, while the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFUND, and the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation, Creditcorp, were expanding access to education and affordable credit.

The President said his administration would, in the coming weeks, introduce additional measures aimed at easing the burden on vulnerable Nigerians.
He listed cheaper transportation, increased food production and grassroots relief programmes among interventions being planned by the Federal Government.
President Tinubu assured Nigerians that his administration remained committed to ensuring that economic growth translates into improved household welfare.
He said the government would continue to pursue policies aimed at making the country’s economic progress sustainable and irreversible.
