A former ally of the Nyesom Wike political bloc in Akwa Ibom State, Rt. Hon. Michael Enyong, popularly known as Babantan, has officially declared his intention to contest the governorship election under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Enyong’s move to the NDC is already generating reactions within the state’s political landscape, particularly among supporters of the Wike-backed political structure with which he was previously associated.

The former federal lawmaker unveiled his governorship ambition with the slogan, “A New Akwa Ibom is Possible,” signalling what political observers describe as an emerging realignment ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Though details of his political strategy are still unfolding, Enyong’s declaration is expected to reshape conversations around opposition politics and alliances in Akwa Ibom State.
