The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has faulted the Federal Government over what it described as worsening insecurity in the country, following the killing of a kidnapped teacher abducted from schools in Oyo State.

In a statement issued on Monday, May 18, 2026, and signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the PDP said the incident reflected what it called the “failure” of the President Bola Tinubu-led administration in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.

The party said insecurity had become normalised under the current government, arguing that citizens now live with kidnapping, banditry and other violent crimes as part of daily reality.

It extended condolences to the families of the victims of the Oyo school attack, while urging the government to move beyond what it described as “routine assurances” and adopt more practical and result-driven security measures.

“The killing of the mathematics teacher, one of those abducted from three schools in Oyo State, is yet another indication of the helplessness that has defined the Tinubu-led APC Federal Government in the management of the nation’s security,” the statement read.

The opposition party also expressed concern over repeated attacks on schools, warning that the trend poses a serious threat to Nigeria’s education system and long-term development.

According to the PDP, the targeting of educational institutions is deepening the country’s already high rate of out-of-school children and could further reduce school enrolment and literacy levels if left unchecked.

The party alleged that the kidnapping of students and school staff has become increasingly common, while accusing the government of responding in a “half-hearted” manner.

It further urged the Federal Government to demonstrate stronger political will and adopt a comprehensive, community-based security strategy involving all stakeholders.

“The government must choose between taking on security headlong or owning up to its failure,” the statement added.

The PDP also called for what it described as a whole-of-society approach to tackling insecurity, stressing the need for improved coordination among security agencies and greater community engagement to achieve lasting results.
