Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has defended his public displays of dancing, saying the hobby has no negative impact on his responsibilities as governor.
Adeleke made the remarks on Tuesday during a town hall meeting organised by Arise TV for candidates contesting the August 15 Osun governorship election.
The governor described himself as a “prudent worker” and said dancing was part of his personality and family culture. He maintained that he could enjoy the hobby while still delivering on his responsibilities.
He said, “I dance because in my family, we are jolly good fellows. As I am dancing, I am working. There is time for everything, there is time to dance, and there is time to work.”
Adeleke’s comments followed criticism from Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, who recently mocked him at an APC campaign rally in Osun and referred to him as the “dancing governor.”
Responding to his critics, Adeleke said those who were unhappy with his dancing should learn the skill, insisting that his hobby had not affected his performance in office.
The governor also highlighted projects executed by his administration, including the construction and rehabilitation of roads, installation of solar-powered streetlights and the upgrading of more than 200 primary healthcare facilities.
According to Adeleke, the health centres were equipped with electricity and clean water, while the road projects were designed to improve security and economic activities across the state.
Adeleke, who is seeking re-election on the platform of the Accord Party, will face APC candidate Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, ADC candidate Najeem Salaam and other contenders in Saturday’s governorship election.
