Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni has approved the appointment of Alhaji Yerima Ibn Mahmud as the new Emir of Ngazargamu following the passing of the late monarch, Alhaji Tijjani Ibn Saleh Geidam.

The announcement was made in an official statement issued on Friday by the Acting Secretary to the State Government, Mohammed Goje.

The throne became vacant after the death of Emir Tijjani Ibn Saleh Geidam, who passed away in Egypt after a prolonged illness. The late traditional ruler was laid to rest in Damaturu on Friday.

Before his elevation, Alhaji Yerima Ibn Mahmud served as Turakin Ngazargamu, a position he held for 16 years within the emirate’s traditional structure.

Beyond his traditional responsibilities, the new Emir has an extensive record of public service. He previously represented his constituency in the Yobe State House of Assembly and also served in the State Executive Council, including a tenure as Commissioner for Livestock Development.

Congratulating the newly appointed monarch, Governor Buni expressed confidence in his ability to provide effective leadership and contribute to the continued progress of the emirate.

The governor urged the Emir to draw on his experience in public service and traditional leadership to foster unity, strengthen peaceful coexistence and promote socio-economic development within the emirate and across Yobe State.

He also appealed to residents of the emirate to support the new monarch, emphasising the importance of collective efforts in sustaining peace, stability and prosperity in the community.
