The Kano State Police Command has recovered 160 suspected stolen solar inverters valued at ₦59.2 million and arrested four suspects in separate operations targeting theft and armed robbery in the state.
The command said the recoveries were made within 48 hours through intelligence-led operations conducted by the Sharada Police Division and the Special Intervention Squad.
The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday.
According to the statement, detectives from the Sharada Police Division received intelligence on July 29 about a 43-year-old man, Abdullahi Isah, who was allegedly advertising large quantities of solar inverters at unusually low prices.
Police said Isah was arrested and a subsequent search led to the recovery of 160 solar inverters, each rated 6.5KW/48V, from an uncompleted building at Haye Quarters, along the Western Bypass in Kano.
The command valued the recovered equipment at ₦59.2 million and said the items were suspected to have been stolen.
Police urged anyone who may have lost solar inverters matching the description to report to the Sharada Police Division for identification and possible recovery.
The command said investigations were ongoing to establish the source of the inverters and identify other persons linked to the alleged theft. Isah is expected to be charged to court after the investigation.
In a separate operation, police arrested three suspects over the alleged theft of six fuel dispensing machines valued at about ₦10.2 million from Jajire Filling Station in Aku Village, Gaya Local Government Area.
According to the police, armed robbers attacked the filling station in the early hours of July 25, overpowered and tied up security guards before locking them inside a security room and stealing the fuel dispensing machines.
Following a complaint, operatives of the Special Intervention Squad reportedly arrested three suspects identified as Bishir Abubakar, 60; Shamsu Abdullahi, 30; and Alhaji Shamsu Lawan, 56, all from Katsina State.
The suspects allegedly told investigators that they purchased the stolen machines for ₦5.2 million from a man identified as Usman Ibrahim of Kaduna State.
The police said efforts were ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect and recover the stolen equipment.
Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, Ibrahim Bakori, commended the officers involved in the operations and said the recoveries demonstrated the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing.
Bakori urged residents to be cautious when purchasing goods offered at unusually low prices and to provide the police with credible information on suspicious activities.
He said community cooperation remained essential to disrupting criminal networks and recovering stolen property across the state.
