Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Senate President David Mark and former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo were among prominent Nigerians who attended the burial of the mother of African Democratic Congress (ADC) Vice Presidential Candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, in Rivers State on Saturday.

The funeral service for the late Dame Mary Orduah Amaechi, who died at the age of 89, was held at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Ubima, in Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state.

Atiku, the ADC presidential candidate, attended the ceremony alongside his wife, Titi Atiku Abubakar, while Mark, the party’s national chairman, was also present.

Other dignitaries at the funeral included Osinbajo, former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami; former Osun State Governor and ADC National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola; and other political leaders and associates of the Amaechi family.

The party said its leaders attended the ceremony to identify with Amaechi and his family and offer their support during the period of mourning.

Photographs from the funeral showed Amaechi and his wife, Dame Judith Amaechi, receiving guests and dignitaries who gathered to pay their final respects to the deceased.

The death of Dame Mary was announced on July 16, 2026.

Her burial took place a day after former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, and former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, visited Amaechi’s residence in Port Harcourt to commiserate with the family.
