The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe State has adopted Dr Jamilu Shaiyaku Gwamna as its consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections, in a move aimed at consolidating party unity and strengthening its electoral prospects.
The decision was reached during an enlarged stakeholders’ meeting presided over by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, who is also the party leader in the state.
According to a statement issued by Ismaila Uba Misilli, Director-General (Press Affairs), Government House, the meeting also ratified consensus candidates for the National Assembly and State House of Assembly positions across the state.

The high-level session drew participation from governorship aspirants, National Assembly and State Assembly hopefuls, members of the State Working Committee (EXCO), party elders, and other critical stakeholders. Also in attendance were zonal officials from the North-East and senior figures within the party, including the Deputy National Financial Secretary.
Party sources said the adoption of consensus candidates followed weeks of consultations led by Governor Yahaya, involving key stakeholders across various levels of the party structure. The process, they noted, was designed to minimise internal disputes, foster cohesion and present a united front ahead of the 2027 polls.
The development builds on a series of strategic engagements convened by the governor in recent months, as part of broader efforts to stabilise the party and reinforce its grassroots support base.
For the Senate, the party adopted DCP Mohammed Ahmadu Deba (Gombe Central), Hon. Jerry Damara (Gombe South), and Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya (Gombe North).
For the House of Representatives, the following candidates emerged by consensus: Hon. Usman Bello Kumo (Akko), Hon. Inuwa Garba (Yamaltu/Deba), Hon. Ali Isa JC (Balanga/Billiri), Hon. Fatima Binta Bello (Kaltungo/Shongom), Hon. Saddam Bello (Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye), and Hon. Jamilu Shabewa (Dukku/Nafada).

Observers say the consensus arrangement signals the APC’s determination to avoid the divisive primaries that have historically weakened party cohesion in some states. However, it remains to be seen how the strategy will be received by aggrieved aspirants and opposition parties as the election cycle approaches.
