The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has warned against the spread of false and misleading security information on social media, saying such actions create unnecessary panic and disturb public peace in the state.

The Command, in a statement, assured residents that the security situation in Akwa Ibom remains calm, stable, and under control, with officers and other security agencies maintaining surveillance across the state.

It disclosed that one suspect, identified as Akaninyene Udo from Akpautong in Esit Eket Local Government Area, has been arrested for allegedly circulating a viral post on social media containing a threatening message, “Eket get ready for us,” alongside an image of an armed bandit.

According to the Police, the post caused tension among residents of Eket and surrounding areas, prompting swift investigation and the suspect’s arrest.

The Command said the suspect will be charged to court upon completion of investigations, while efforts are ongoing to identify others involved in spreading the content.

Residents were advised to avoid sharing unverified security alerts and to rely only on official channels for credible information.

The Police reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining peace, security, and public safety across Akwa Ibom State.
