The Delta State Police Command has arrested the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Dr Kingsley Ashibogwu, and three other suspects in connection with the death of Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda, a Deputy Director in the state Ministry of Secondary Education.
The latest arrests bring to five the number of people currently in police custody as investigators seek to establish the circumstances surrounding Adeda’s death.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Monday night.
According to the police, the command has also launched a manhunt for two persons described as key suspects whose presence is required as part of the ongoing investigation.
They were identified as the Director of Basic and Secondary Education, Mrs Clemetine Ufuoma, and Clement Apia, the driver attached to the Commissioner for Secondary Education.
Police urged both individuals to report to investigators without delay to assist with the investigation.
The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Samuel Erale, has directed investigators handling the case to conduct a thorough, impartial and professional investigation.
He assured the public that anyone found culpable following the investigation would face justice in accordance with the law.
The command also assured Adeda’s family that due process would be followed in determining the circumstances surrounding his death.
Police expressed condolences to the deceased’s family and reiterated that the investigation would establish the facts surrounding the incident and determine whether any individual bears criminal responsibility.
