The Kano State Fire Service recorded 58 fire incidents and 13 deaths across the state in May 2026, according to the agency’s monthly operational report.
The disclosure was made by the Director of the Service, Sani Anas, and conveyed in a statement issued by the agency’s Public Relations Officer, Saminu Yusif Abdullahi.
According to the report, the Service responded to 80 emergency calls between May 1 and May 31, comprising 58 fire outbreaks, 15 rescue operations, and seven false alarms.

Anas stated that the 13 fatalities recorded during the month resulted from various incidents, including fire outbreaks, road traffic accidents, and accidents involving ponds and wells.
Despite the losses, the agency successfully rescued 34 people through its emergency response operations across the state.
The Director further revealed that properties valued at more than ₦144 million were destroyed by fire during the period. However, prompt intervention by firefighters helped save properties estimated at approximately ₦437 million.
He urged residents to observe fire safety precautions and exercise caution when handling fire-related activities to reduce the occurrence of preventable disasters.
According to him, public cooperation and adherence to safety measures remain critical in safeguarding lives and property.

Anas reaffirmed the commitment of the Kano State Fire Service to rapid emergency response, public enlightenment campaigns, and preventive measures aimed at reducing fire outbreaks and other emergencies across the state.
