The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ekem Emmanuel John, has charged leaders of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Oruk Anam Chapter, to key into and actively advance Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda by positioning themselves as strategic partners in their communities.

Dr. John gave the charge shortly after the youth leaders received certificates following a successful three-day Human Capital Development Training and Retreat organized by the More Leadership Academy (MLA), which he sponsored.

He urged them to embrace productive ventures capable of creating value not only for themselves but also for their communities, the Local Government Area, and the state at large.

The Commissioner emphasized the need for a shift in mindset, encouraging the youth leaders to rise above petty concerns and overdependence on political patronage.

He stressed the importance of becoming value-driven individuals whose contributions transcend election-related activities and unproductive engagements.

“I am interested in making you see Governor Umo Eno’s vision through the ARISE Agenda. The vision is not about raising thugs, but about nurturing Akwa Ibomites who can compete globally across sectors,” he stated.

Highlighting the importance of personal development, Dr. John added that the difference between one’s past and present lies in the quality of thinking, access to information, and the company one keeps.

He noted that his own success was built on discipline and purposeful engagement, not disruptive or negative means.

Earlier, the Chancellor of the More Leadership Academy, Dr. Morgan Ekanem, who facilitated sessions on stakeholder mapping, engagement strategies, and action planning, reminded participants that leadership is demonstrated through action beyond the training environment.

He explained that stakeholders are individuals or groups with vested interests in decisions and outcomes, and urged the participants to strategically identify and engage them.

“Leadership does not start in this room; it begins after you leave. What you have learned is not for your notebooks, but for real-life application and impact,” he said.

At the end of the retreat, the youth leaders pledged to adopt a new approach to leadership, focusing on meaningful community engagement and long-term impact.

Speaking on behalf of the participants, the Coordinator of NYCN, Oruk Anam Chapter, Comrade Elisha Ekpenyong, expressed profound appreciation to Dr. Ekem Emmanuel John for sponsoring the training. He described the gesture—covering tuition, accommodation, feeding, transportation, logistics, and ceremonial attire—as a clear demonstration of the Commissioner’s commitment to youth empowerment and human capital development.

Comrade Ekpenyong assured that the executive council would reciprocate the support by demonstrating exemplary leadership and upholding strong moral values.

He also commended Dr. Morgan Ekanem and the management of the More Leadership Academy for delivering impactful and insightful training sessions.
