Tension has gripped Awka, the Anambra State capital, following the killing of a popular mobile advertiser and media personality, Isaac Nwosu, popularly known as Aiza, and another unidentified man by suspected cultists.
Nwosu’s bullet-riddled body was discovered inside his Toyota Hilux, while the second victim, who sustained a gunshot wound to the head, was found along a street in Awka.
According to a source, Nwosu was allegedly trailed from his residence by assailants travelling in a tinted vehicle before he was attacked.
The media personality was reportedly a familiar face at high-profile events, where he worked as a disc jockey and master of ceremonies. He also occasionally presented programmes on local radio stations.
The Anambra State Police Command confirmed the killings on Monday and said it had intensified efforts to arrest those responsible.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said preliminary information indicated that three unidentified persons travelling in a silver-coloured Toyota Corolla allegedly shot the victims at separate locations in Awka.
He said police operatives responded to a distress call and mobilised patrol teams to the affected areas, where the bodies were recovered along Capital City Road, Amaenyi, and S.M. Okeke Street, Amaikwo.
Ikenga said the victims were taken to a hospital and later confirmed dead by medical personnel.
“While one of the victims is yet to be identified, the second victim has been identified as Isaac Nwosu, also known as ‘Aiza’,” he said.
Police recovered ₦7,550, a Moniepoint ATM card and a pair of scissors from the scene.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, condemned the killings, describing them as unacceptable and a direct threat to the peace and security of Anambra State.
He directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka for discreet and comprehensive investigation.
The command said patrols, surveillance and intelligence-gathering had been intensified across Awka and neighbouring areas.
Police appealed to residents, community leaders, motorists and business owners with credible information about the suspects, their movements or the vehicle used in the attacks to contact the authorities.
The command assured members of the public that information provided would be treated confidentially and urged residents to remain vigilant and support efforts to apprehend the perpetrators.
