Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has called on Nigerians to offer prayers for the country, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, other leaders to ensure lasting peace and national stability.

The governor made the appeal during a meeting with chief imams of Jummat mosques from across the state, stressing the need for collective spiritual support in addressing the nation’s challenges.

According to a statement issued by Mamman Mohammed, the meeting part of the first phase of an engagement with Muslim and Christian clerics, was attended by over 800 chief imams representing various Friday mosques.

Buni said Nigeria requires sustained prayers to overcome both internal and external threats capable of undermining peace and development. He that without peace, meaningful progress would remain elusive.

“There can be no meaningful development without peace,” the governor stated, urging citizens to unite in support of efforts aimed at securing the country.

He also reminded the clerics of the devastating impact of the Boko Haram insurgency on the state, recalling how thousands lost their lives, many were displaced, and properties destroyed at the height of the crisis.

The governor warned against a relapse into such violence, noting that Nigeria must remain vigilant to avoid a repeat of the painful past.
