Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of manipulating the United States into going to war with Iran, describing the Israeli leader as a “serpent.”
Araghchi accused on Monday in a post on X, citing remarks attributed to Netanyahu about his alleged influence over the US administration.
“In Hebrew, Netanyahu openly crows that he suckered the U.S. Administration into a war on Iran on behalf of Israel,” Araghchi wrote.
He claimed that Netanyahu had spoken about influencing American public opinion through extensive television appearances.
“In English, he praises POTUS’ leadership. Serpent,” the Iranian foreign minister added.
The comments came amid renewed tensions between Iran, Israel and the United States following months of conflict.
The war began on February 28 after US and Israeli strikes on Iran killed Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and senior Iranian military officials, according to Iranian authorities.
Iran subsequently launched retaliatory attacks against targets across the region as the conflict escalated.
An April ceasefire brought an end to the most intense fighting, but sporadic attacks, particularly around the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, have continued to undermine efforts to reach a permanent peace agreement.
Washington has also shifted its strategy towards what it describes as “economic asphyxiation” of Iran, increasing pressure through economic measures.
The United States on Sunday carried out strikes on Iran’s Larak Island, marking its first reported attack on the country in about a month.
Iran said it responded by launching attacks against US military bases in Jordan and the United Arab Emirates.
Meanwhile, Netanyahu last week, ruled out the prospect of an agreement between Iran and the United States and described Iran’s leaders as “savages.”
